Student Volunteering Network Privacy Statement

The Student Volunteering Network is an unincorporated volunteer-run organisation for sharing best practice amongst volunteering professionals in Higher and Further Education in the United Kingdom.  We mainly operate through the SVN website, and through the JISC mailing list(s); we also have a shared Google Drive for the purposes of organising the committee and pooling shared resources; as well as various social media accounts.

If you choose to join the Student Volunteering Network (SVN) you do so by registering on the mailing list for both the national mailing list and/or your local region.  SVN will process your personal data (name and email) to record your membership and may contact you about the activities of the network.  Membership is limited to those with an email suffix originating from a recognised Higher/Further Education Institution, Students’ Union, or embedded third party provider.  Individuals can unsubscribe at any time.

The mailing list is an un-moderated and non-hierarchical method for sharing of best practice on an ad hoc basis, anyone in the list can send in a query, and anyone in the list can post a reply.

The legal basis for processing this personal data is consent, which is obtained when you voluntarily sign up and/or request to be added to the SVN Mail Base; you may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.

Your personal data will not be shared or disclosed to any third parties external to SVN except Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) who provide the membership list on behalf of SVN.  Your personal data will be kept securely by JISC in line with their Service Policies and Googles in line with their privacy policy.

The SVN committee are the Data Controllers of this information and are committed to protecting the rights of individuals in line with Data Protection Legislation.  The SVN committee can be contacted through studentvolunteeringnetwork@gmail.com with any requests or complaints.
